Staff Profile – Roger Dunstan
I began working at T L Parker Ltd in August 1989 – next year will be my 30th Anniversary. At that stage the business had seven employees, five of whom were Parker family members. A family firm back then as it remains today. Terry Parker had been my rugby coach and offered me a position within the company – the rest is history.
The Cellular phone industry was starting to gain momentum as well as a continued growth in two way radios. We had just formed a joint venture with Motorola to establish a 800 MHZ Smartnet trunked radio system which was leading edge technology at the time. This system is still operating today but is due to be decommissioned soon.
My core role during the 90s and early 2000’s was to grow the sales side of the business. Consequently more staff members were employed and our sales grew. Early in the 2000’s I was appointed to the National fit out committee for Orb Communications for the rebranding and store fit out of all Orb stores Nationwide.
Two way radio sales and networks have continued to be the core business for us but new complementary products have been introduced , such as Bluetooth hands free car kits and Tom Tom vehicle fleet tracking. Our industry is now changing rapidly with digital radio and LTE products becoming more prevalent, making T L Parker Ltd well positioned for a thriving future in the technology industry.
In my free time I enjoy Golfing (occasionally), boating, touch rugby (masters grade!!) and relaxing on the Riviera (Charteris Bay).
